Volunteers Wanted!

Are you looking for a way to serve your community? The City needs volunteers to serve on Boards and Committees. These roles provide a way for you to give back and provide input on city matters. We currently have openings for the following opportunities. To apply, please complete the application form available here.

  • Board of Review – 2 Members

The Board of Review consists of 6 citizens (5 members and 1 alternate) who live in the City. The Board of Review meets on several occasions throughout the year but its primary duty is to hear property valuation and classification appeals when it meets in March. Members are appointed by the Mayor subject to the approval of the City Council.

  • Camp Frances – 2 Members

The Camp Frances Educational and Recreational Center is a municipal nonprofit corporation created by the Charlotte City Council to continue the work of a predecessor private nonprofit organization. The Board of Directors is appointed by the City Council to oversee activities and programs at Camp Frances. This Board consists of 9 members who serve staggered, four-year terms.

  • Planning Commission – 1 Member

The Planning Commission is appointed by the City Council to perform duties related to land use planning for the city. In that capacity, the Commission is responsible for developing a master plan, recommending amendments to the zoning ordinance, and reviewing and approving site plans for new developments, among other duties.  This Board consists of 9 members who serve staggered, four-year terms; the City Manager and a Councilmember serve as ex-officio, non-voting members. Planning Commission meets on the first Tuesday of most months, Commissioners are appointed by the Mayor subject to the approval of the City Council.

  • Ad Hoc Water Treatment Committee – 3 Members

This committee is a temporary assignment to study options for consideration of construction of a water treatment system or other water system improvements. The committee’s work includes conducting town hall meetings and surveying for public input and feedback. The committee will convene over the course of the year and make a recommendation to Council in December.
