Life Support

Life Support

The City of Charlotte DDA is delighted to have one of last year’s most popular acts, Life Support, back for the second summer in a row. This high-energy variety band wowed the summer concert audience last year with their upbeat music, and ability to play seemingly every audience request. “We try to introduce a couple new bands each year,” concert organizer Bryan Myrkle said. “But, I don’t remember another new band making as strong a first impression as Life Support.”

The free concert will take place on Thursday, July 28, at 6:30 p.m. on the lawn of the historic 1885 Eaton County Courthouse Square. Life Support has been a performing unit for 15 years, with more than 140 years of combined experience. The key members of the band are Nikki Fowler on lead vocals, Ricky Nalett on keyboards and vocals, Bob Giunta on guitar and vocals, and Donny Brown on drums and vocals. Life Support was one of the premier bands at The Beer Barrel in Put-In-Bay for several years, and is one of the most requested bands for special events on Mackinac Island. Life support performs everything from jazz standards to classic rock and modern artists.

Joining Life Support for a special song debut will be Charlotte-are resident Chas Burtchett. Earlier this year, Burtchett was chosen to sing a newly written song for Autism Awareness along with Michigan country music singer and former American Idol contestant Taylor Walls. Burtchett and Walls performed the song “Perceptions” for Autism Awareness Month to raise both funding for, and interest in, the issue. The song was written by Lonny Ray of Clio, Mi and Mike Vanderville of Fenton, Mi – both inspired by Michigan Autism activist Josh Stokes. Perceptions expresses through words and music how it feels to live with autism. Burtchett has a heart-felt connection to autism, as he has a sister with the syndrome. He will be performing the song for its Charlotte debut this Thursday with Nikki Fowler and the rest of Life Support.

The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. and will run approximately two hours. In case of rainy weather, the concert will be moved to the Charlotte Performing Arts Center. Admission will remain free-of-charge. The Summer Concerts on the Square free music series will continue every Thursday evening through the end of August.
