The City of Charlotte is seeking an experienced fire professional and dedicated leader to serve as its Fire Chief. The Charlotte Fire Department is staffed by a Fire Chief, six full time firefighters (Captains – 3 and Lieutenants – 3), approximately 20 volunteer firefighters, and several part-time employees who provide fire protection, prevention, emergency medical, and related emergency services to over 20,000 residents encompassing a 150 sq mi geographic area including the city and downtown area, and the contracted service to five neighboring rural townships. In addition to fire fighting and emergency medical service training and experience, the successful candidate should have experience in personnel supervision and management of both full-time paid and volunteer staff, i.e. performance evaluations, staffing, disciplinary methods, similar. Experience in a union environment is preferred. Starting salary $70-80,000 DOQ, with excellent benefits package including paid time off, retirement savings, health, dental, and vision coverage, and life and disability insurance. The City of Charlotte, Michigan is seeking well qualified candidates for the position of Sergeant to work for the best small department in the State of Michigan. The Charlotte Police Department is a 16-person progressive department that seeks professional candidates with potential for growth and focus on a long-term career with our agency. Duties include patrolling city streets, parks, commercial and residential areas to preserve the peace and enforce laws and city ordinances. Traffic control, enforcement, crime prevention, detection and investigation of incidents involving misdemeanors, felonies and other law violations are a part of the job tasks for this position. Supervision of 2-3 officers per shift.
Hours include working 12-hour shifts, weekends, holidays, dayshift, nightshift and on an overtime basis. Candidates must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Position requires substantial contact with the general public, court officials and other city officials in the performance of their police duties. Ability to perform work requiring good physical condition, ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with subordinates’ peers, supervisors and administration. Ability to exercise good sound judgment in evaluating
situations and in making decisions. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions are mandatory.
Associates Degree in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Public Administration or related field with a Bachelor Degree preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience in law enforcement.
Must be licensed by MCOLES.
Must possess a valid State of Michigan driver license.
No felony convictions and/or disqualifying histories or poor driving record.
Must be able to read and write the English language.
Must be of good moral and ethical character.
Must be 21 years of age.
Ability to complete all phases of the selection process.
HOURS, WAGES and BENEFITS
This is a full-time position with an hourly rate of $31.82/hr, plus a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, optical and the MERS Hybrid retirement plan all at no cost to the employee.

The City of Charlotte is seeking to fill a full time position in the Department of Public Works. Pay range of $15.99 – $20.89/hr with competitive benefits, represented by SEIU union. The eligible candidate must be 18 years old and have a valid Michigan Drivers License. CDLA with air brakes and tanker endorsement, or ability to complete CDLA training. High school graduate or G.E.D required, and one year of related experience preferred.
This role will perform manual and semi-skilled tasks related to the operation, maintenance, and repair of City public works facilities. Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs on a regular basis to complete duties. Requires mechanical aptitude and physical coordination required to operate a variety of hand and power driven tools, air hammers, trucks, tractors, and other motorized equipment.
