William Callahan is the Chief of Police for the City of Charlotte, and as such, is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the police department. He directs the city's community policing efforts, as well as overseeing a large staff of officers and a fleet of vehicles. Callahan is an important city resource, advising many of the city boards and commissions and serves as the city's Traffic Control Officer. He has a long record of public service outside the department, and is a key public relations representative for the city. Callahan holds a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice.

MISSION STATEMENT


The Charlotte Police Department is an organization of self directed quality contributors, with a community-based philosophy of policing that encourages more citizen participation in crime reduction and allows greater coordination with other social agencies to address crime-related problems. Police Officers will be the catalysts who bring the necessary resources to bear on specific community problems throughout Charlotte.
