Street Funding Advisory Committee To Meet Tuesday, May 1

In its preliminary review of the proposed budget for the fiscal year that starts July 1, City Council members decided to solicit citizen input regarding the need for additional funds to resurface and reconstruct city streets. Mayor Dee Smith has appointed members to an advisory committee that is charged with reviewing the City’s current fiscal condition and determining whether additional funding is required.

The committee’s first meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 1 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers. Interested residents are welcome to attend the meeting.

The committee will meet several times during May and June to develop and prepare a report of its findings and recommendations to the City Council to be presented in early July. It is expected that the committee will discuss various options for additional funding including a dedicated street millage, the use of special assessments and the levying of an income tax.

Proposed Budget Presented To City Council

The proposed budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1, 2012 was presented to City Council during the April 9, 2012 council meeting. The Council will be discussing the budget during the April 23 meeting and is expected to set a public hearing on the budget for the May 14 City Council meeting.

The budget must be adopted by Council not later than June 11 but could be approved prior to that date.
