William Callahan

William Callahan was born and lived the first 10 years of his life in the city of Detroit, Michigan.  At the time of the race riots the Callahan family moved north to the thumb area and took up residence on a small farm north of Croswell.  William,  known primarily as “Bill”,  attended Croswell-Lexington Community Schools and graduated in 1976.  Bill attended Saint Clair County Community College earning an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice.  Transferring to Ferris State University, Bill then earned a Bachelors Degree and became certifiable as a police officer early in 1980.

During his time at Ferris State Bill married Carol Ann Kanaby from Lexington, Michigan, a member of his high school graduation class.  Bill has three sons and two grandsons.

After graduating from Ferris State University, Bill was hired as a dispatcher for the City of Charlotte Police Department.  Advancing through the ranks of Patrolman, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and on April 1, 2000 was appointed Chief of Police for the department.

Bill was, and is, very active within the community, holding leadership positions on the Charlotte Public School Board, the CPS Education Foundation, the Camp Frances Board, the Child Abuse Council, Siren and Eaton Shelter, as well as many others.

An active member of the St. Mary Catholic Church, Bill has served on the Parish Council, the Finance Committee, and is an active member of the Knights of Columbus.

During his leisure moments, Bill enjoys travel, camping and fishing as well as playing the guitar and wood working.
