Responsibility for the oversight of this department is assigned to Kevin Fullerton, who is also the Charlotte Fire Chief.  This office administers Planning and Zoning Code, develops and maintains the City Master Plan, and provides staff support for the Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals.  Chief Fullerton is assisted by LeRoy Hummel, who is also a Captain in the Charlotte Fire Department, in carrying out the day-to-day operations of the Building & Zoning Department. 

Specifically, but not limited to, department staff addresses Planning, Zoning Enforcement, Zoning Variances, Zoning issues, Ordinance Enforcement including Construction Codes, Property Maintenance Code and Special Use Permits.
